Three simple steps to beautiful skin

Have you ever gone to bed with your make up on? Research shows that not cleansing your skin is a significant ageing factor. It can leave you with dry, parched skin, deeper wrinkles, uneven skin tone, redness and blocked pores. Whether you wear make up or not, cleansing your skin at the end of the day is vital in helping to keep your skin clear and glowing, not to mention an essential part of an anti-ageing regime.

Cleansing and caring for your skin doesn’t need to be complicated or involve a small arsenal of products in your bathroom cabinet. I recommend a simple, 3 step natural skin care plan to give your skin the care it needs throughout the year:

Step one: Using an oil cleanser, massage the oil into your skin, going in an upwards motion from neck to forehead, covering everywhere you have applied makeup. Wash the oil off with warm water, using a clean muslin or face cloth.

Step two: Dampen one or two cotton pads and apply a floral water toner to them. Again, sweeping upwards, cover your entire face and neck. The toner will close pores opened by the warm water, freshen the skin and wipe off any residue left from the cleanser. It can also help an oil based moisturiser sink into the skin.

Step Three: Using an oil that is suited for your skin, pour a small amount into your hands and press it onto your skin, again covering your whole face and neck. By pressing it in, instead of rubbing it, the oil will go further and more of it will end up on your face than your hands (where it makes a lovely but quite expensive hand moisturiser!). Leave the oil to sink in and only apply a small amount more if you really feel certain drier areas of your skin need it.

Remember that, as the seasons change, your skin may change too so pay attention to how your skin feels and looks and adjust what you are using accordingly. What works for you in Winter may need to be adjusted in Spring and so on.

Following the tree step plan above will ensure your skin looks clearer and healthier but it is also helpful to have a regular facial. A good facial will nourish and hydrate the skin, boost circulation, bringing fresh nutrients to where they are needed and give skin that has been blasted by cold winter winds that glowing complexion we are all after.
